Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more.  When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen! In the Sandy club we have two main goals,

  1.  Do all we can to help develop our youth to become good leaders and responsible adults
  2. To help those in need within our community.

 

Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step Study @ Living Way Fellowship

Living Way Foursquare Church has 6 Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) meetings each week. There are a total of 11 Sandy AA meetings and 0 meetings within 25 miles of Sandy, Oregon. In addition, there are Sandy treatment centers within 25 miles of Sandy and Oregon drug and alcohol treatment centers.

Tonight we are serving popcorn along with the documentary film BEES: TALES FROM THE HIVE.

Due to specially developed camera lenses, you will enter the most intimate and spectacular portrayal of a working bee colony ever filmed.

We will focus on what can be done for our yard and garden to attract butterflies and keep them coming. There are actually dozens of varieties of butterflies in our area. Presenter, Jim Kronenberg, will teach us some general advice about how to attract them all.

Jim Kronenberg is an OSU Extension Service Master Gardener Volunteer.  He speaks frequently to groups on gardening topics and is the coordinator for the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market Master Gardener clinic booth.

REPAIR FAIR is an event where volunteers are available to fix items, and perhaps to teach you how to fix your own.

Bring:

*Broken items (nothing large or heavy) and any replacement parts you think you might need.

*CLEAN! clothing.

Please remember:

We are volunteers! Please be kind and generous. We may not have volunteers to fix everything, and there is no guarantee you’ll walk out with a workable item, but we’ll give it our best shot.

 

Participants are helped on a first-come, first served basis. One item per person, please.

We may have to turn some repairs away due to time or resources.

We make simple repairs to garments and textiles, such as sewing on a button, or mending. No alterations, please.

Twenty-four Hours in Sandy

Sunday, April 28 – All Day-

24 photographs, one for each hour of a day in Sandy, to showcase the different perspectives of our town. This is a collaborative, community project designed to capture the essence of Sandy. Each participant may sign up for an hour. During their time slot, they take photographs somewhere within 5 miles of the Sandy Public Library. Three photos from each entrant can be submitted, and one from each will be in the display

At the end of the project, we will make a book of 24 photographs and a display for the library wall.

Please register to participate, before April 8th.

There will be no direct tutoring support, but students will be supervised by an adult to help maintain focus and ensure that computer time is being used only for schoolwork (i.e. no games or socializing). All independent students ( age 10+) are welcome

This will be run by employees of DD & MH Provider of Oregon and our Clients, Volunteers, donations from Sandy Community Action Center, and the Community Church of Sandy by allowing us to use their beautiful kitchen and dining area.

It offers people a free warm meal, a cup of coffee, socializing, and a bit of love. Anyone is welcome, not just the good folks here in Sandy.

It is held at the Community Church of Sandy at
39290 Scenic St, Sandy, OR 97055. We will be entering from the North side of the church and up the ramp.

  1.  Do all we can to help develop our youth to become good leaders and responsible adults

In addition, there are Sandy treatment centers within 25 miles of Sandy and Oregon drug and alcohol treatment centers.

Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Support groups, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association of Oregon, meet in Sandy, at the Sandy Senior Center, 38348 Pioneer Blvd, Sandy. Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia impacts every aspect of your daily life. As an Alzheimer’s patient loses one ability after another, a caregiver faces tests of stamina, problem solving, and resiliency. Maintaining your emotional and physical fitness is crucial, not just for you but also for the person you’re caring for. Preparing yourself, understanding your loved one’s experience, and seeking support from others can help you succeed on the caregiving journey.

Anime clubs are increasingly found at universities and high schools. Anime Club is for teens ages 12-17 or grades 6th – 12th, who want to come together to share their passion for anime. We will watch some anime, talk about our favorites, eat snacks, draw, craft, and iron perler beads. Meet at the Sandy Library Community Room on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 2:30-4:30 pm.
