Beginning square dance lessons start on September 15th. It will be available for new people to join the lessons on the 15th, 22nd, and 29th, and then we close it, so we can move on more rapidly. The first lesson is free and it is $5 per student after that. The lessons are from 7:30 to 9:30 PM on Thursday evenings and are taught by Scott Zinser, a seasoned caller. Dress is casual. You do not require a partner to come, but if you have someone interested, it is fun to learn together. There will be experienced dancers there to assist.
No sense of rhythm or coordination is required. Many people enjoy square dancing that struggle with other types of dancing that require those. The students need to be able to walk and have some sense of balance, but it is very basic and almost anyone can do it. You have to be able to learn calls and patterns of dance, but that is done largely through repetition. Children can learn, usually 10 or above, but sharp kids who can stay on task have learned younger.
