Adapted from Virginia Wolf’s critically acclaimed novel, Orlando charts the life of an Elizabethan nobleman – who lives for three centuries. This poetic and confessional character engages in sword fights, trades barbs with 18th century wits, changes genders, has a baby, and drives a car. Before everyone else was talking about gender-bending, Woolf was already meditating on the ways gender is performative, bearing it out in this mock biography – a love letter to Vita Sackville-West – and adapted by one of America’s most acclaimed playwrights.
